De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis is a painful condition that affects the tendons on the thumb side of your wrist. It commonly causes discomfort when turning the wrist, grasping, or making a fist.

Symptoms:

  • Pain and swelling near the base of the thumb
  • Difficulty moving the thumb and wrist during pinching or grasping
  • A “sticking” or “stop-and-go” sensation in the thumb

Causes:

  • Repetitive hand or wrist movements
  • Overuse of smartphones or gaming devices
  • Lifting heavy objects incorrectly

Treatment Options:

  • Rest and splinting
  • Anti-inflammatory medications
  • Physiotherapy for gentle stretching and strengthening
  • Cortisone injections in severe cases
